What's Changed?

EECA’s Warmer Kiwi Homes programme has recently expanded its funding zones, making it easier for more New Zealand homeowners to access insulation subsidies. EECA has extended eligibility to also include homes in Deprivation Zones 5, 6 and 7, significantly widening the net. This change means tens of thousands more homes across the country are now eligible for subsidies. If you’ve checked your eligibility before and didn’t qualify, it’s worth checking again. You might now fall within the updated zones.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What new areas can access funding?

Warmer Kiwi Homes have expanded their eligibility criteria to include homes within SDI zones of 5 and 6. EnergySmart can check your address instantly.

What if I have checked in the past and didn’t qualify?

Make sure you check again - with new areas now added to the subsidy zones, homeowners who were not eligible in the past may now meet the new criteria.

Can I receive funding if I already have insulation?

Possibly - it depends on your current set up and if you have had any funding in the past. EnergySmart can help you determine if you may be eligible.

Is the funding income tested?

Not always. Your home's location is a key factor - it must be within the approved zones of SDI 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 or 10. Alternatively, if you own your own home and have a Community Services Card, you may be eligible. With the expansion of eligible SDI areas more homeowners qualify regardless of income, so it is worthwhile checking to see if you may receive funding.

How do I see if I am eligible?

EnergySmart can check your details and address to see if you qualify under the new criteria.

What is the Warmer Kiwi Homes programme?

It’s a government-funded initiative through EECA that helps eligible homeowners cover the cost of insulating their homes. The programme aims to make homes warmer, drier, and more energy-efficient.

What has changed recently?

EECA has expanded the eligible funding zones. Previously limited to Deprivation Zones 7, 8, 9 and 10, the programme now includes Zone 5 and 6 as well. This means many more homeowners across Aotearoa may now qualify for insulation funding.

Who is eligible for insulation funding?

You may be eligible if:

You own and live in a home built before 2008, and

You either:

  • Have a Community Services Card, or
  • Live in an eligible Deprivation Zone (6–10)

How much of the cost does the grant cover?

Grants cover 50% to 90% of the cost of ceiling and underfloor insulation.
In some areas, top-up funding from community organisations may reduce your contribution even further — sometimes to $0.

Do I need a Community Services Card to qualify?

No. If your home is in a qualifying area (Deprivation Zones 5–10), you may still be eligible even without a Community Services Card.

Is there any cost to check my eligibility?

No, there’s absolutely no cost. EnergySmart will check your eligibility and apply on your behalf - with no fees, no commitments, and no hassle.

What kind of insulation is included?

The grant covers ceiling and underfloor insulation — key to creating a healthier, more energy-efficient home. Wall insulation is not currently included in this grant.
