Frequently Asked Questions - Insulation Subsidies

What parts of my home are insulated under the subsidy?

The subsidy covers ceiling and underfloor insulation only. Wall insulation is not included under Warmer Kiwi Homes. EnergySmart can also provide wall insulation, but it will not be covered by the subsidy.

Can I apply for both insulation and heating subsidies?

Yes – and in most cases, insulation must be completed first before you're eligible for the heating grant. Our helpful team can help manage both applications for you, please let us know if you would like EnergySmart to support with this.

Do I need to pay anything?

If you qualify for the 80% or 90% funding, you’ll just pay the difference. In some areas, 100% funding is available through local partnerships – we’ll let you know what you are eligible to receive throughout free assessments.

What if I already have home insulation?

We’ll assess your home to ensure it meets the current standards. If a top-up is needed, and your insulation is not up to code, you may still be eligible for insulation funding.

How do I know if my home needs insulation?

If your home was built before 2008 and hasn’t been insulated or upgraded recently, it may not meet current standards and you may required new insulation. We offer a free home assessment to check your ceiling and underfloor insulation and confirm what’s needed.

Is the insulation installed safe and eco-friendly?

Yes – we only use approved insulation products that are safe, effective, and meet NZ Building Code requirements. Our installers are trained to work around existing wiring, plumbing, and ventilation safely and are experts in insulation installation.

How long does the process take?

Once your eligibility is confirmed and your home assessed, most insulation jobs are completed within 2–3 weeks, depending on regional demand and property access.

Will insulation really make a difference in my home?

Absolutely. Good insulation helps keep your home warmer in winter, cooler in summer, and reduces your power bills. It’s one of the most effective ways to improve indoor comfort and health.
